Lab Week 5 - Search engines..

List of Resources for Language Learning....
These are 3 popular search engines that been used to find resources related to language, grammar, writing and etc..

Below are 3 popular search engines that been used by students to find information.
Among these 3, from what I've experience, when u type a keyword or certain words,
each search engines gives you a different list of web links, but it also depends on what
is the keyword that you type. For the example below I put in "resources for learning language"
as the keyword. As for the result, each search engines gives me a different link of web pages.

As you can see below I've also rates them using stars...

From what I've experience, ''www.bing.com" gives you more accurate links then the other two.
It doesn't matter which one you used, what's important is information that been found in the websites whether
helpful or not. Therefore, type the keyword wisely so that you'll find the correct information in a short time.
GoodLuck!

    www.yahoo.com

                                                                                     www.bing.com

As for the second tutorial task, I've found 2 websites to translate words and phrases. The first
one is ''http://www.citcat.com/'' and second one is ''http://www.stars21.com/''.

http://www.citcat.com

                                                               http://www.stars21.com
Conclusion to both of these translator website, I choose "http://www.stars21.com".
Why, because the acurrancy for the translation is almost 100% correct. I suggest you out
there to check out this webpage. There's nothing to loose. Try it!

As for the first website, you can still use it but only if you want to translate words or short
   words.

My rating for the websites are :

                                                      For  http://www.stars21.com

                                                    For http://www.citcat.com

                                                    >>   In my opinion  ''http://www.citcat.com'' could still improved it's
websites by adding more words or vocabulary in the
                                                           translator system .\(-.-)/

My Advertisement!

Hai everyone…thankz for visiting my blog.
This week in the lab tutorial we were given a task. An interesting one though.
Guess what? We need to remake an advertisement…interesting right???(-.-)/

Well, firstly what we need to do is of cause to find a printed advertisement.
It could be found in the newspaper, magazine, and etc..
Well I found mine at the CC.
My advertisement were about laptops..

 1 - Procedure

Here we go, firstly u need to find pictures that is related. I search the pictures in google> images.
After edit the pictures in paint. It was sure though to edit, took some time.
Then, I start to combine the material for the advertisement in a folder. I used powerpoint to remake the advertisement because it’s easier for you to convert it later into ‘jpeg’ format.
First
I put in the background color – yellow + grayish color.
Type in the words>in ‘WordArts’, and change the fonts size using background color and shadow.
Then I put in the first picture>’red chili’.

Second
I put in the price for the laptops using ‘shapes’ and textbox. After that, I insert the laptop, ‘intel core duo’ pictures. For words I wrote them in a textbox, it’s easier this way when you need to edit it.

Third

Lastly, I edit and refurnish the pictures and words. After everything seems nice the advertisement were save in ‘jpeg’ format and ready to be publish in my blog.

 2 – Picture source

The picture can be found in yahoo or goggles’. For my pictures, I found them in the goggles’.
They were all kind of pictures, you need to search carefully, so that the pictures is similar to your original advertisement.

 3 – Format

To remake the advertisement I used powerpoint, but to publish it in the blog I change it to ‘jpeg’ format because in this people can’t edit or sabotage it.

4 – Typing
For typing I usually used all of my fingers and also using the mouse to help me click and insert symbol like – “ ®™ ”.

 5 – Help Tools

For this lab work I didn’t used any help tools cause in this task we only need to remake back the advertisement. But for graphic I used help on how to used paint tools.

6 – Helps from friends and others observation

Even though the task seems easy but it’s a bit tricky to do the
                editing.
I did asked friends for help regarding the task.
One of it is regarding the  format for the advertisement.
I also got some help from PM Dr Norizan regarding on the words
                structure.

                Question 6 – Rates

Typist      >  7. My rate is 7 because I’m an intermediate typist,
but in certain situation I  can type fast especially
                                       during chatting. :-)

                Designer >  8. I rate myself as 8 because usually I'll design
something depends on my passionate and
                                        feelings..

Walla! Here you have the duplicate advertising

poster@flyers..

p/s - But in this task it took me longer  than I expected, because when you  are  trying to duplicate something you need to do a lot of things.

There you have it our lab 3 tutorial. Hope this  answers could help you in your work in the future.

Daa…Take care . (-.-)/

My way of writing Emails...

Class tutorial

Title : Email content (Myself)

1.Salutation

As for me, I often used salutation in my emails just like the old days when we write letters during schools.

Example : Hi, greetings, gd mornin, salam.

2.Smiley and emoticons

I like using smiley and emoticons, it’s a must thing that needed to put in my email. It’s express my feeling in certain times or situation especially when I’m happy.

Example :

3.Short forms:

I used short forms in certain situation or words, if I’m in a hurry I will used more short forms. My friends are familiar with it because the short forms that I used is standard short forms that everyone knows.
Example : tc = take care gtg = got to go
bf = breakfast bz = busy
ga = go away tt = tata

4.Code switching

Usually I code switching from English to Malay or vice-versa depends on the topic or situation. Sometimes it’s also been influenced by Chinese language due to some of my friends are Chinese.

5.Trailing dots: Interfere your understanding? No?

Trailing dots is one of my habits during writing messages. It shows that I’m thinking or I need feedback from my friends when I do trailing dots. Numbers of trailing dots depends on the messages.

Example : mmm…, why?...

6. Capitalization and repeated use of letters

During writing messages it’s hard to define and double checking the capital letters of words. I prefer write in small caps words but in circumstances I will used capitalize words and repeated letters.

7. Hypertext? Pictures and template used?

Hypertext are rarely used in email messages, but sometimes I just copy the hyperlink of a webpage and let friends to find the hypertext themselves. As for pictures and templates I will attach them together for certain purposes or for special occasion.

8. Grammatical aspects? analyze the sentences are they grammatically correct or are there any mistakes, why , how ?

When receive or sending messages it’s hard to double checking the grammatical error, because the messages need to be send as soon as possible. I’ll just take a glimpse look at it and send to my friends. But if the email is for lecturers, I will double checking the grammar and sentences.

Tutorial Task for week 3
Language  and  ICT

Definition

Information Technology

We use the term information technology or IT to refer to an entire industry. In actuality, information technology   is the use of computers and software to manage information. In some companies, this is referred to as Management Information Services (or MIS) or simply as Information Services (or IS). The information technology department of a large company would be responsible for storing information, protecting information, processing the information, transmitting the information as necessary, and later retrieving information as necessary.

Information Communication Technology
ICT (information and communications technology - or technologies) is an umbrella term that includes any communication device or application, encompassing: radio, television, cellular phones, computer and network hardware and software, satellite systems and so on, as well as the various services and applications associated with them, such as videoconferencing and distance learning. ICTs are often spoken of in a particular context, such as ICTs in education, health care, or libraries. The term is somewhat more common outside of the United States.

Internet
The Internet, sometimes called simply "the Net," is a worldwide system of computer networks - a network of networks in which users at any one computer can, if they have permission, get information from any other computer (and sometimes talk directly to users at other computers). It was conceived by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) of the U.S. government in 1969 and was first known as the ARPANET. The original aim was to create a network that would allow users of a research computer at one university to be able to "talk to" research computers at other universities. A side benefit of ARPANet's design was that, because messages could be routed or rerouted in more than one direction, the network could continue to function even if parts of it were destroyed in the event of a military attack or other disaster.

Computer Mediated Communication
Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) is the process by which people create, exchange, and perceive information using networked telecommunications systems (or non-networked computers) that facilitate encoding, transmitting, and decoding messages. Studies of CMC can view this process from a variety of interdisciplinary theoretical perspectives by focusing on some combination of people, technology, processes, or effects. Some of these perspectives include the social, cognitive/psychological, linguistic, cultural, technical, or political aspects; and/or draw on fields such as human communication, rhetoric and composition, media studies, human-computer interaction, journalism, telecommunications, computer science, technical communication, or information studies.

 Netiquette
Netiquette, or net etiquette, refers to etiquette on the Internet. Good netiquette involves respecting others' privacy and not doing anything online that will annoy or frustrate other people. Three areas where good netiquette is highly stressed are e-mail, online chat, and newsgroups. For example, people that spam other users with unwanted e-mails or flood them with messages have very bad netiquette.

   Web Browser

A web browser as a computer program used for accessing sites or information on a network (as the World Wide Web). This is a simple, yet accurate description. Web browsers come in many different styles, each with their own nuances. However, the main reason a person utilizes a web browser is to view web pages on the Internet, similar to the way you are viewing this article right now.

The browser application retrieves or fetches code, usually written in HTML (HyperText Markup   Language) and/or another language, from a web server, interprets this code, and renders (displays) it as a web page for you to view .

Navigating the web

That which facilitates movement from one Web page to another Web page. Navigation is often taken for granted, but it plays a crucial role in getting site visitors to view more than just the home page. If navigation choices are unclear, visitors may elect to hit the "Back" button on their first (and final) visit to a Web site. Once they enter, the real challenge begins, as it is no easy task to allow first-time visitors to get take maximum advantage of a site.
